Country Music - Janie Fricke

Janie Fricke was born in 1952 in South Whitney, Indiana, and grew up playing guitar and piano. Her major music influences were folk and country. While attending college, Fricke sang commercial jingles for a radio station in Memphis. In 1975, she moved to Nashville a vocalist for recording sessions. Shortly thereafter, she began performing duets with Johnny Duncan, one of which "Thinkin' of a Rendezvous" topped the charts at number one. Her solo debut in 1977, failed to make the top 20, while she continued recording hits collaborating with Duncan and Charlie Rich. In an effort to spark her solo career, Fricke focused on recording ballads, and scored six number one hits and several Top Tens during 1981 to 1984, such as "Down to My Last Broken Heart", "Tell Me a Lie", and "It Ain't Easy Bein' Easy". Her success continued during 1985 and 1986 with the number one single "Always Have, Always Will". In 1989, she left her record label, CBS, and joined Branson who released her Hymns of Faith gospel record in 1996. Fricke received several CMA and ACM awards in 1982 and 1983 for Female Artist and Female Vocalist of the Year.
