Country Music - Dierks Bentley

Dierks Bentley grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, listening to country music with his dad. With his friends, he played rock and roll music, struggling with the electric guitar and never connecting to the music. When he was 17, he heard Hank Williams Jr. sign Man to Man and knew that country music was what he wanted to do. The rhythm guitar came to him easily, and he started writing songs. Dierks moves to Nashville at the age of 17, using college as a ploy to get there. He started playing at gigs, and picking up any information and advice he could get to learn the industry, meeting his goal to perform at the Bluebird CafŽ by the time he was 23. Cutting his first album, Dierks knew that in order to succeed he would have to come up with a smash hit. "What Was I Thinkin'" was released in 2003, and hit number one on the charts, earning him Top Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music. Bentley was the recipient of the Horizon Award in 2005 for "I've Still Got a Lot of Leavin' Left to Do". A self-taught country artist, Dierks spends a lot of time touring the country, and in every stop and every town, he makes a point of getting to know America and it's people, because that's what Dierks Bentley is all about.
