Country Music - Deana Carter

Born in Nashville on January 4, 1966, Deana Carter's father, Fred Carter, Jr., was a guitarist in recording sessions throughout her childhood. Deana was singing and making demo tapes, when legendary Willie Nelson discovered her and invited her to perform in the 1994 Farm Aid VII concert. That invitation led to a contract with Capitol Records and the release of her first album "Did I Shave My Legs for This?" in 1996. That album gave Deana her first number one single and CMA Single of the Year award for "Strawberry Wine". Deana sang the soundtrack to the animated film Anastasia, earning Golden Globe and Grammy nominations for the song, "Once Upon a December". When problems arose at Capitol Records and her marriage ended, Deana moved to Los Angeles and released a new album with Artista Nashville. Always knowing that she performed best when given freedom to be herself with her distinct voice, Deana found a home with Vanguard Records in L.A. and cut The Story of My Life, which she says allowed her to make a record which was totally hers. There was no input from the record company or music producers, just Deana delivering her music, heart, and as she so often likes to do, giving her fans a surprise or two.
