Country Music - Carolyn Dawn Johnson
Surrounded by music as a child, Carolyn Dawn Johnson was drawn to a musical career. Born in Grand Prairie, Alberta, on April 30, 1971, Johnson made home recordings and attended concerts while attending college. She moved to British Columbia to attend recording engineering school when she was 21. Focusing on songwriting, Carolyn Dawn joined the Nashville Songwriters Association International and spent three years traveling to Nashville on a work visa. Moving to Nashville in1997, she began writing songs and singing as a studio vocalist. In 1999, Johnson landed a record deal, having penned Chely Wright's No. hit, "Single White Female". Soon, she was touring with Martina McBride as a backup vocalist and guitarist. Her first CD, Room With a View, contained Top 10 singles "Complicated, and "I Don't Want You to Go", spawning five Canadian Country Music awards. The Academy of Country Music named Johnson Top New Female Vocalist in 2002, and she was deemed Favorite New Country Artist at the 2003 American Music Awards. Married to husband, Matt Fisher, Carolyn Dawn's philosophy of living every moment to its fullest was the subject of her sophomore album, Dress Rehearsal, released in 2004.
