Country Music - Billy Dean

Born in Quincy, Florida, on April 2, 1962, Billy Dean was slated to be a basketball star, earning a scholarship to East Central Junior College in Decatur, Mississippi. While majoring in physical education, Dean played in clubs and entered talent contests. In 1988, he received national recognition when he won Ed McMahon's Star Search. His 1990 debut album included the hit "Somewhere in My Broken Heart", which was nominated for a Grammy. With three gold albums and one platinum, Dean continued to make the charts, but faced with personal issues, took some time to reconnect and face his demons. Dean grew up in poverty and has always struggled with the fear of returning to that status. A simple man, Dean lives in a modest neighborhood with his children, who have become the foundation of his existence. During the break in his career, he honed on his songwriting skills, crafting expressive songs which relate to his life experiences. He came back with a new attitude, urging his label to let him live his life, and in return he'll strive to deliver the best music he can. The concept is working for Dean. His 2004 release "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" made the charts, and opened the doors for a contract with Curb Records. He penned his 2005 smash hit "Let Them Be Little", a song which reflects on his love for his children. As Dean states, "you can have a career in music without sacrificing your family and children", and that'll always be where his priorities lie.
