Country Music - Andy Griggs
Andy Griggs was born the son of a probation/parole officer on August 13, 1973, in Moore, Louisiana. His father, who led the choir at church, died suddenly when Andy was only ten. His older brother, Mason, became the man of the house while singing and writing songs for a local band. Tragically, Mason died of a heart attack at the age of 18 at Northeast Louisiana University. Andy, a freshman at the same school, returned home and filled Mason's role in the band. He also became a youth minister at the family church. Griggs joined Jerry and Tammy Sullivan, a bluegrass gospel group, and married Jerry's daughter, Stephanie. In 1995, Andy secured a management deal, and he and his wife moved to Nashville, where Jerry recorded demos, among them a duet with Mindy McCready, who was still unknown. RCA signed Griggs in 1997, releasing his first single "You Won't Ever be Lonely" in 1999, which topped at number two. Another number two single followed with "She's More" which held it's spot for five weeks. In 1993, Andy and his wife, Stephanie, divorced. His third album with RCA, This I Gotta See, released in 2004, brought Griggs a solid hit with "She Thinks She Needs Me" and "If Heaven" which broke into the Top 5. Griggs is a frequent supporter of a variety of charitable causes, establishing the annual Archery Tournament to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and St. Jude's Hospital at the CMA Festival in Nashville.
